A note from the hiring manager
You don't need to know the European investment grade market inside out to apply for this role. Helpful, yes — essential, no. We can teach you how the market works. What's much harder to teach is journalism: the hustle, the source work, the instinct for what's actually a story.
If you've picked apart an earnings report, worked the phones for a piece of information that isn't already sitting on a screen, or chased a syndicate banker for the colour behind a deal that's just priced, this is the role for you. 9fin puts a real premium on human source outreach. It's hard graft — cold outreach to bankers, investors, advisers and treasurers usually is — but when it lands, it lands properly: a scoop, a piece of context, a read on the market our competitors simply don't have. We want reporters who understand why that work matters.
IG credit is a complex market and it's all interconnected. So we are looking for people who aren't afraid to ask questions when they don't understand something, and keep asking until they could explain it simply to a friend. The best reporters on this beat sit comfortably in the detail and connect it to the themes moving the broader market — what's driving spreads, why issuers are picking certain windows, where the buyside is leaning in or pulling back.
This is a London-based role covering the European IG credit market end-to-end. There's a real opportunity here to shape how this asset class gets reported on. If that sounds like your kind of brief, I'd love to hear from you — Christopher Shiells, Editor.

You might just be who we’re looking for — either for this role, or perhaps another.
