💡 Role Purpose:

At Curve, we obsess about our customers through innovating and working iteratively to solve problems in the world of money that aren’t being tackled by conventional banking.

The purpose of the Staff Engineer is to take a proactive and leading role in designing and realising the technical architecture across a Group, taking into consideration commercial impact, alignment to wider technology strategy and business objectives.

You will lead architectural discussions within the Group and contribute to the wider technology strategy across the organisation, ensuring decisions are well governed and engineering have the technical coaching and mentorship required.

🔑 What you’ll be doing:

  • Take a proactive and leading role in designing and realising technical architecture across a Group, considering commercial impact and alignment with the wider technology strategy, collaborating effectively across multiple teams
  • Contribute to the assessment, exploration, and investigation of technologies that provide opportunities or competitive advantage, regardless of platform or language
  • Work with other Staff Engineers and Tech Leads to promote and enforce good architectural practices (Domain-Driven Design, Event-Driven Architectures, Distributed Systems)
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and the VP, Engineering & CISO to assess technical feasibility and risk of large or complex initiatives, bringing experience to balance flexibility, expediency, and scalability
  • Hold and contribute to the technical vision for your domain, influencing decisions across teams while ensuring alignment with broader business goals
  • Ensure a balance between feature delivery and addressing technical debt or defects across platforms
  • Communicate architectural plans and strategy clearly to stakeholders of varying technical backgrounds, including product teams
  • Encourage pragmatic engineering: focus on delivering working solutions first, then refining, and reduce the cost of failure to foster experimentation
  • Dedication to continuous improvement in technology, processes, team, product, and self
  • Represent Curve’s technical excellence both internally and in the wider engineering community

🧠 What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience designing and delivering high-quality technology solutions in a fast-moving environment
  • Comfortable collaborating with multiple stakeholders and teams across different disciplines
  • Expertise in at least one technology stack and proficiency in others; adaptable across languages or platforms
  • Track record of building large-scale, performant systems with concurrency, scalability, and reliability in mind
  • Experience developing and running production environments, ideally with DevOps or SRE practices
  • Deep understanding of building high-performance systems (low latency, high throughput, high availability)
  • Experience across multiple technology domains (back-end, front-end, mobile, microservices, APIs)
  • Always advocates for good engineering practices that promote maintainable, evolvable systems
  • Solid understanding of security principles and best practices across platforms
  • Exposure to complex domain architectures (e.g., payments, financial services, large-scale consumer platforms)

  • Partners with Product Managers and VP, Engineering & CISO to assess feasibility and risk, making informed decisions that balance flexibility, expediency, and scalability.
  • Successfully builds and scales large concurrent systems that are performant, reliable, and resilient, demonstrating measurable impact on production stability and system efficiency.
