About Fluidstack

At Fluidstack, we build the compute, data centers, and power that will fuel artificial superintelligence. We supply GWs of compute capabilities to the world’s biggest AI Labs at industry-defining speeds.

Our team is small, fast, and obsessed with quality. We own outcomes end-to-end, challenge assumptions, and treat our customers' problems as our own. No task is beneath anyone here.

There are a few thousand people who will shape the trajectory of superintelligence. Come and be one of them.

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Field Engineer to support the commissioning, operation, and maintenance of critical mechanical and cooling infrastructure across our hyperscale AI data center campuses. AI workloads generate extreme heat densities that demand precision mechanical systems — this role is responsible for making sure those systems never let the compute down. In addition to day-to-day operational responsibilities, this role carries engineering accountability for new construction support, capacity upgrades, site audits, and design review — providing the technical depth needed to both operate and improve the infrastructure you own.

The ideal candidate has come up through mechanical and cooling systems in mission-critical environments, is equally comfortable troubleshooting a chiller fault and reviewing a P&ID in a design meeting, and takes personal ownership of the thermal health of every data hall they support.

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of critical cooling and mechanical systems including chillers, cooling towers, CRACs/CRAHs, CDUs (liquid cooling / direct-to-chip), dry coolers, economizers, pumping systems, and associated piping infrastructure; enforce site safety requirements including LOTO, confined space, and refrigerant handling procedures across all mechanical work.

  • Develop, review, and execute MOPs, EOPs, and AOPs for planned and emergency mechanical maintenance events; manage and coordinate third-party mechanical contractors and vendors performing work on site.

  • Monitor BMS platforms for cooling system performance, alarm response, and capacity tracking; maintain accurate as-built documentation, P&IDs, and equipment records following any system modifications; support change management processes including risk assessments and post-work documentation.

  • Perform design and submittal reviews for new data centers and own engineering solutions for existing facility upgrades that add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical faults and equipment failures; conduct formal Root Cause Analysis (RCA), lead engineering site audits within owned or colocation data centers, and produce risk reports with recommended mitigations and remediation plans.

  • Act as resident engineer during new construction and commissioning; interface with internal design, server hardware, and EHS teams while providing procedure reviews, ad-hoc training, and critical event support across multiple concurrent projects and regions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment

  • Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission-critical facilities, especially data centers

  • Demonstrated experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and submittal documents

  • Familiarity with BMS/BAS platforms for cooling system monitoring and control

  • Experience with refrigerant handling and EPA 608 certification

  • Proven ability to develop and execute MOPs and EOPs in a live critical environment

  • Strong familiarity with ASHRAE thermal guidelines and data center cooling standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of HVAC systems in mission-critical or data center environments

  • Knowledge of power systems, fluid dynamics, or thermodynamics as applied to data center cooling infrastructure

  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment

  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for critical infrastructure

  • Experience in a hyperscale or colocation data center environment with direct-to-chip or immersion liquid cooling systems

  • PE licensure or equivalent mechanical engineering credential

  • Uptime Institute AOS or equivalent data center operations certification

  • Experience with commissioning programs at Tier III or Tier IV facilities

  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms for work order management and documentation

Benefits

  • Competitive total compensation package (cash + equity).

  • Retirement or pension plan, in line with local norms.

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.

  • Generous PTO policy, in line with local norms.

The base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $160,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location. This range represents our good faith estimate of the compensation for this role at the time of posting. Total compensation may also include equity in the form of stock options.

We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
