About Griffin

Hi, we’re Griffin! We’re the bank for companies who want to build and launch financial products.

Our context

We're rapidly heading towards a future where most of us access financial services through technology companies rather than high street banks. All sorts of companies are now embedding financial products into their apps and user journeys so that their customers can seamlessly make payments, manage expenses, take out loans, save, invest, and do more.

The problem is that companies are still dependent on legacy banking infrastructure if they want to offer regulated financial products. They need to either partner directly with an incumbent bank and/or stitch together middleware from various Banking as a Service (BaaS) providers. This process is slow, expensive, and complex and makes it very hard for companies to get new financial products off the ground.

At Griffin, we want to change this.

Our purpose

We want to make it easy for companies to bring finance to their customers at the point of greatest relevance. So, we built a bank.

But not just any bank! Griffin is a technology platform and a bank: fully regulated, API-first, developer-centric, and purpose-built to serve innovative fintechs and brands who want to build and embed financial products.

Our culture

Our culture is our most important asset, and one of the ways we safeguard it is by being extremely intentional about hiring the right people. We won't hire people who don’t seem like a strong fit for our core values, even if they're otherwise extremely qualified.

We also believe that smart, motivated, conscientious people thrive in high-trust, high-autonomy environments. That’s why we’re transparent by default, and we encourage open discussion and challenge across all levels of the organisation. We’re also remote-first, asynchronous, and fully flexible - because you're the expert on how and when you do your best work.

The Cultivate function

At Griffin, we don’t just aim to be a brilliant place to work, we want to be a career-defining chapter in your story. We aim for your time with us to be transformative: a place where you stretched, learned, and left with new skills, stories, friends and experiences that shaped the trajectory of your future career.

Our People team, affectionately known as the ‘Cultivate’ function exists to make that vision a reality. In this varied role, you’ll think like a product leader: spotting opportunities, connecting dots, experimenting, and finding new ways to deliver value for Griffin, our people, and our culture.

Who you are

The world of people ops is evolving. Automation, intuitive, self-service tools, and higher expectations are redefining what a People team can deliver. In this role, you’ll have the autonomy to architect a next-generation People operations service. You’ll take a holistic view, ask “why?” often, and spot opportunities to improve, and then make them happen.

We’d like you to have, or be:

  • Experienced in high-growth environments: you've a background gained your senior people experience in similar roles in Fintech, banking, or other high-growth tech companies.

  • Employment law literate: solid UK employment law foundation, plus practical, hands-on experience managing EoRs, overseas arrangements and the associated complexities.

  • Regulatory fluency: you’re comfortable navigating the practical application of frameworks like SM&CR and the PRA remuneration code.

  • A trusted advisor: people turn to you for practical advice. You ask great questions, give honest feedback and coach through complex situations with patience, empathy and pragmatism.

  • Experience-driven: you’re energised to make work feel smooth, meaningful and enjoyable. Creating seamless, friction-free people operations touch points isn’t just your job, it sparks joy.

  • Strategic and tactical: you identify root causes and patterns, then design tools, habits and processes that solve systemic challenges.

  • A builder with bias to action: you think like a product manager by thoughtfully defining problems, gathering insights, shipping Minimum Lovable Products, then iterating.

  • Creative problem-solver: who sees complexity as an opportunity, not a blocker.

What you’ll be doing here

You’ll be an integral part of almost all elements of the people lifecycle. We’ll rely on you to:

  • Own the end-to-end people lifecycle: run onboarding, internal moves, offboarding and everything between. The result being that you create smooth, culturally aligned experiences that improve over time. You bring sound judgement, empathy and steady guidance to sensitive or high-stakes situations.

  • Drive performance: run performance cycles, facilitate calibration, analyse data, design leadership tools and learning sessions, and give hands-on support. You coach leaders to tackle people challenges, grow their teams and build high performance.

  • Design progression models: create clear, simple frameworks that show what great looks like and how to get there.

  • Payroll and operations: partner with Finance to ensure accurate payroll across all jurisdictions and on share option schemes via Ledgy; from onboarding to exercises, and explore how to evolve our equity offering as we scale.

  • Design reward structures: building on the foundations already in place. This could mean designing reward structures, running pay review cycles and improving how our compensation philosophy shows up.

  • Keep people data crisp: deliver insights, spot trends, and run culture surveys to inform decisions and surface opportunities.

  • Optimise tools and systems: lead on evaluating and implementing tools, using AI and automation to streamline what doesn’t need human touch. Oversee third-party vendors (EoRs, background checks, benefits, etc.) for consistency and alignment.

  • Work across Cultivate: partner closely with the CPO and team to keep everything coherent, occasionally stepping in to cover other roles (like hiring) during holidays.
