JOB TITLE: Healthcare Assistant

CONTRACT TYPE: Bank staff, part time

ROLE OVERVIEW:
We're looking for an experienced and dedicated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our dynamic team to deliver Rheumatology outpatients clinics in Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent.
This is an in-person role, initially supporting one clinic per month, with the potential for increased frequency based on service needs.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong clinical background and proven administrative capabilities to contribute to high-quality patient care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will be a vital part of the multidisciplinary team, providing essential clinical support to nurses and doctors, and ensuring the smooth, efficient operation of our busy rheumatology clinics.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing direct patient care, including pre-clinic assessments and preparing patients for consultation or treatment.
- Assisting clinicians during patient appointments and procedures.
- Performing clinical duties as per training and competency (e.g., blood tests, basic observations).
- Maintaining a safe and clean, clinical environment.
- Taking responsibility for specific administrative processes to support clinic efficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Experience:
- Must have prior experience working as an HCA within the NHS.
- Rheumatology/Clinic Experience: A minimum of six (6) months recent experience working specifically in outpatient clinics is essential. Experience gained primarily on inpatient wards will not be sufficient for this role.
- Previous experience in a rheumatology, or similar specialist clinic is highly desirable.
Clinical Skills:
Proficiency in core HCA duties relevant to a clinic setting, including but not limited to:
- Taking and recording vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature etc).
- Performing phlebotomy (venepuncture).
- Measuring and recording patient height and weight.
- Preparing patients and assisting clinicians with procedures.
Administrative Management:
Demonstrable experience in managing and executing clinic-related administrative tasks, such as:
- Accurate data entry and updating patient records
- Managing clinic flow and ensuring timely patient attendance.
- Preparing and filing documentation.
- Managing stock and ordering supplies.
WORKING ARRANGEMENTS AND KEY TERMS:
This is a bank role to support in delivering a face to face clinic one day per month.
There is scope for the role to develop, subject to service demand and expansion.
