About the role
Our Compliance team blends regulatory expertise with data-driven thinking to make sure our products meet legal and policy requirements and deliver real value to customers. In a fast-moving, digital environment, they stay one step ahead by finding smart, scalable ways to manage conduct risk.
We’re looking for an experienced Information Officer to lead our local regulatory compliance strategy. You'll be establishing and executing our privacy and data protection compliance programme.

What you'll be doing
- Acting as the officially registered Information Officer in South Africa with the Information Regulator
- Building and leading a local privacy team, while coordinating with the global Data Protection Officer
- Designing the complete framework for how we handle personal information to ensure we meet South African and European privacy standards
- Leading deep-dive reviews of new products and AI tools to ensure they're fair, transparent, and secure
- Creating clear maps of how data flows through our systems
- Managing the full lifecycle of data, including setting up automatic systems to delete information when no longer needed
- Serving as the main point of contact to handle audits, reports, and inquiries
- Partnering with our engineering teams to build privacy features directly into our apps and software
- Overseeing the process for customers to access, correct, or delete their personal information upon request
- Running regular checks on our security safeguards to protect against cyber threats and data leaks
What you'll need
- 5+ years of compliance, privacy, risk management, legal or audit experience
- Expertise in international and domestic privacy laws and regulations, including POPIA, FICA, NCA, CPA, GDPR, and the Financial Sector Regulation Act
- Experience advising and challenging on privacy risks, and supporting business lines through various interactions and forum engagements
- A willingness and passion to develop knowledge and expertise in other related areas, such as wider data and AI governance
- A solid understanding of the interplay between compliance risk and business risk
- A solution-oriented mindset that facilitates solving complex privacy and data protection problems
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrated sound judgement and analytical skills
- The ability to provide clear, concise, and timely advice when dealing with ambiguity
- Experience leading compliance programmes for consumer products
Nice to have
- A background in large banks or high-growth fintech companies
- A proven ability to work in a complex international environment
- Relevant professional certifications (CIPP/E, CIPP/A) or membership with the Compliance Institute Southern Africa (CISA)
