Working at Stotles

About this Role & Why We're Hiring

It's never been a more exciting time at Stotles. Here's why we're looking for you.

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager who will lead and mentor a team to deliver product impact quickly and sustainably.

You’ll set direction, support people, and stay close to the code. You’ll help engineers grow, make smart trade-offs, and ensure we’re building the right things the right way.

You’ll also play a key role in shaping how we scale our engineering culture and processes as the company grows.

Comp Range: £95,000 - £120,000 per year + equity grant depending on experience

What You'll Do

  • Lead and support a small team of engineers, guiding them through prioritisation, delivery, and growth.

  • Stay hands-on: contribute to architecture, code reviews, and technical design discussions.

  • Partner with product and design (working closely with our CPO, Carsten and Head of Design, Phil) to turn ideas into reality; shaping scope, estimating effort, and managing delivery.

  • Ensure technical excellence by maintaining high standards in code quality, performance, and reliability.

  • Coach and develop your team, running 1:1s, setting growth plans, and fostering collaboration and ownership.

  • Help build and evolve the Stotles platform as we scale; both the software and the team behind it.

Some examples of what you and your team might work on:

  • Build the next generation of our AI features

  • Improving our search and discovery experience

  • Drive the evolution of our core platform

You’ll help us bring structure, speed, and clarity to an engineering organisation that’s growing fast and make sure every engineer does their best work.

Our tech stack

  • Front-end: TypeScript with React

  • Back-end: Node.js / TypeScript / GraphQL with Nest.js (migrating from Ruby on Rails)

  • Data: PostgreSQL and OpenSearch

  • Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform

  • CI/CD: fully automated builds, testing, and deployments

We review our stack often — you’ll help us make the right technology choices for scale and speed. See more on our stackshare

Who We're Looking For

Skills we're looking for

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, including at least 1 year of leading or managing other engineers

  • Strong technical background across both front-end and back-end development (ideally with TypeScript and React)

  • Proven ability to deliver complex, high-impact software from design through to production

  • Comfortable balancing hands-on development with people management and prioritisation

  • Solid understanding of relational databases and web application architecture

  • Experience building SaaS or data-intensive products

Qualities we're looking for

  • Effective communicator and leader: You share complex ideas clearly, give thoughtful feedback, and build trust through open, honest communication both with your team and across the company.

  • Systems thinker: You understand how process, people, and product fit together to drive results.

  • Great at working with others, great at managing your time: As we’re a small team working on ambitious goals, effective teamwork is crucial. At the same time we expect everyone to manage their workload efficiently.

  • Focused on impact, not output: Always focused on the customer impact of what we’re building, using the best tool for the job and excited to learn new things in the process.

  • Ambitious curiosity: Eager to learn skills and technologies outside of your comfort zone, take ever more challenging tasks, and grow into a senior leadership role at Stotles.

  • Dependability & detail-oriented: Trusted to deliver on the commitments you make to the team, from the big picture results to the nuanced details.

Next steps

  1. Screening call with our Technical Talent Partner

  2. Collaborative coding session with the Engineering team

  3. System Design interview with our Head of Engineering

  4. Meet key Product and Engineering colleagues

We're excited to meet you!
