What is Sylvera anyway? ‍👩‍👨🌳

Sylvera provides trusted ratings, tools and data for carbon credits and CDR. Our mission is to incentivize investment in real climate action.

Purchasing carbon credits and CDR through the carbon markets is one of the most established and scalable ways to channel finance to effective climate solutions and work toward societal net zero. Unfortunately, the carbon markets were plagued with mistrust and a lack of effectiveness since they’ve emerged – until Sylvera.

To help organizations ensure they're making the most effective investments, Sylvera provides trusted ratings, tools and data for carbon credits and CDR. Our data and software independently and accurately validates the impact of carbon projects that capture, remove, or avoid emission whether they are up and running, or in development. Our data and tools allow users to optimise both the climate and economic performance of projects as well as understand the past and future of the market. With Sylvera, businesses, governments and developers can confidently invest in, benchmark, deliver, and report real climate impact.

Our team is made up of leading minds in climate change from science to policy, finance, and carbon markets. We work in partnership with scientific organizations, universities, governments, and think tanks to develop and implement rigorous and holistic project assessment methodologies, leveraging the latest technology. We also partner with actors and institutions across the whole market to make data higher quality, more standard and more accessible. Founded in 2020, Sylvera has 130+ employees globally with offices in London, New York, and Singapore. We’ve raised over $96 million from leading investors like Fidelity, Balderton Capital, Index Ventures, and Insight Partners to date.

What will I be doing? ‍‍👩‍💻👨‍💻

Over the coming months, Sylvera’s Earth Analytics - Field Data Science team will be collecting unprecedented volumes of multi-scale lidar field data, ultimately to help scale the flow of finance into the restoration and protection of the world’s ecosystems. This includes work based in the UK in collaboration with Scottish Forestry, IUCN UK Peatland Programme and CivTech, focused on the Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Code, as well as a large multi-partner campaign in Brazilian Atlantic Forest. We’re therefore looking for a Field Operations Intern, who will split their time between office-based planning of these complex field campaigns, and participate extensively in the field work itself. This internship is for 6 months, with the possibility of conversion to a full-time role at the end of the internship.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Permissions management: driving the end-to-end application process for UK and other international fieldwork, liaising directly with stakeholders

  • Logistics coordination: managing complex travel and scheduling logistics

  • Technical fieldwork: supporting forest plot establishment, conventional inventory (ideally able to identify UK tree species), terrestrial laser scanning measurements, and soil coring

We’re looking for someone who: 🧠💚

  • Has excellent organisational skills, with great attention to detail and the ability to multitask

  • Is highly proactive and a quick learner, with a positive hands-on approach following managers guidance

  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills

  • The desire and flexibility to travel for up to 3 months continuously across the internship

  • Able to adapt and thrive in a variety of challenging, remote, and potentially hostile environments, including long walks with heavy items, and working long days in the field

  • Full / clean UK/EU driving license is essential

  • Cares deeply about the climate and ecosystems of the earth

  • Is a self-starter who thrives in constantly evolving environments, ideally with early-stage experience

We’d like someone highly ambitious, motivated and eager to propel their career forward. We prioritise initiative, grit, positivity, and the willingness to get stuck in, and encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't exactly match this job description.
