Job Description

We’re looking for a Junior Counsel to join our growing Legal Team in Austin, TX and help support the North America region.

This role is a unique opportunity to build on your legal experience, help deliver Wise’s mission of money without borders, grow as a lawyer in a fast-paced listed company environment and help millions more people save money.

Your mission:

Wise continues to pioneer new ways for people and businesses to send, spend and manage their money across borders and currencies.

Your mission is to support the legal function within the Wise group to help take the business to the next level.

About the role:

  • Support the Americas Senior Counsel in driving key priorities, supporting business planning, growth and strategy, and evaluating overall legal risk considerations.
  • Build relationships with multiple business units across Wise to provide strategic advice and practical solutions on a wide range of legal matters and projects including financial and consumer regulations, disputes and litigation, banking arrangements, new products, partnerships, employment etc.
  • Structure, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial documents.
  • Collaborate with multiple business teams to launch innovative products, services and partnerships, including Product, Finance, Banking, Risk, Compliance and PR.
  • Manage changes to Wise’s customer agreement for new services, new market entry and/or general agreement maintenance.
  • Work with the global Legal Team (based in Austin, London, Tallinn, New York, Tampa, Singapore, and São Paulo) to deliver initiatives that will impact the wider group and company.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Choose your path to impact - we believe people are most empowered when they can act autonomously. So rather than only being told what to do, you’ll take ownership from day one. Of course, you will have feedback from people across Wise but you’ll experience unique levels of ownership and empowerment within your role.
  • Be part of our mission to make money without borders the new normal.
  • Build experience working on a range of legal issues applicable to the North America region.

About you:

  • A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA accredited law school and qualified to practice law in Texas.
  • 2 -5 years of professional experience as an attorney.
  • Fluent in English. Proficiency in Spanish and Portuguese is not required for the day-to-day function of this role, but is a “nice to have.”
  • Experience in the banking, payments, financial services, and/or technology industry.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, including proficiency in project management.
  • Ability to navigate difficult issues and multiple stakeholders, advising the business on key risks, and developing solutions.
  • Ability to evaluate and summarize legal advice in a succinct and pragmatic way to different areas of the business.
  • Demonstrable experience in contract structuring, drafting, and negotiation.
  • Knowledge of how fast growth companies work - how to balance between maturity in corporate governance and operations, and the practical considerations of fast growth and scaling.
  • Have a get-it-done, collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Have a committed and dependable work ethic.

Key benefits:
