Job Description

As a financial institution moving billions of pounds of customer money in more than 70 countries, Wise must have bulletproof financials & tax reporting.

We are looking for a Tax Senior Specialist to join our Finance Team in Tallinn. This role is a unique opportunity to have an impact on Wise’s mission by ensuring timely and accurate indirect tax compliance as well as contributing to building mature processes and a scalable tax function.

Your mission

  • Help to prepare indirect tax returns globally, this includes in countries like Estonia, UK, Belgium, Singapore, Australia etc. and others as required. This includes working with other members of the finance team to extract the relevant data, ensuring processes are fully documented, controls are operating effectively, returns are reviewed and reconciled back to the balance sheet.

  • Eventually take ownership of the overall indirect tax reporting process globally. This includes adhering to controls, managing risks and judgement schedules.

  • Support the rest of the Indirect tax team in helping the business to manage and optimise the overall indirect tax positions of the group. This may include ad hoc technical research, leading projects and liaising with external advisors to ensure tax requirements for any new products or geographical regions are properly understood, captured and reported.

  • Develop strong relationships with the group accounting and accounting operations team, as well as financial controllers, to ensure the impact of indirect taxes are understood and reflected in the financials.


Qualifications

About you

  • Tax degree or practical experience in finance, tax or accounting (c. 3+ years)

  • Basic understanding of core accounting principles and the 3 financial statements

  • Basic excel skills

  • Conscientious self-starter with solution oriented mindset and with amazing communication skills

Some extra skills that would be great

  • Practical experience of indirect taxes in an in-house environment or consulting business

  • SQL or willingness to quickly learn it
