Job Description

We’re looking for a Payment Operations Risk & Controls Senior Specialist to join our growing team in Tallinn.

Your mission is to identify operational risks and controls, working with operational, product and other teams to coordinate assessment, mitigation and monitoring of operational risks. You’ll drive risk awareness culture within Payment Operations and across the company. You will be responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring and risk mitigation initiatives across different Payment Operations teams and you’re expected to drive projects that impact the whole organisation.

Here’s how you’ll add value to the team:

  • Helping teams analyse new and existing products and operational processes, assessing risks and working with stakeholders to reduce risks to an acceptable level;
  • Proactively identifying risks, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities, and initiating strategic projects to address them;
  • Independently executing various risk-related tasks, such as monitoring controls, conducting risk assessments, analyzing data, and investigating potential issues;
  • Assessing and testing existing controls, working with stakeholders to improve existing controls and implement new ones;
  • Driving risk awareness across Payment Operations and ensuring alignment in risk management policies, procedures, and methodologies across the whole organisation;
  • Cooperation with various other teams in Wise, including Group Risk, Compliance, Finance, Audit;
  • Driving risk mitigation projects and ensuring their timely completion. Ownership of issue remediation activities using our risk management tool (Audit Board) to ensure appropriate risk focused prioritisation.
  • Performing monitoring routines over various topics, reporting the results;

Qualifications

  • You have a right to work in Estonia (e.g. citizen, permanent resident, EU citizen)
  • You're placed in Tallinn, Estonia, or willing to relocate here.
  • You have solid experience in working with operational risk management either in 1st or 2nd Line of Defence teams. Experience in a FinTech is a bonus.
  • You’re data-driven, able to prioritise the value add, measure the impact and have a proven track record of moving metrics and reaching your KPI goals.
  • You’ve a proven ability to identify, assess, and analyze complex risks.
  • You have a keen eye for detail and are resilient when facing difficult tasks.
  • You’ve a strong understanding of risk management frameworks, methodologies, and tools.
  • You’ve strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • You’ve experience as a project manager and are able to drive larger projects.
  • You take responsibility for your domain and take initiative.
  • You’re a great communicator. You’re able to quickly pick up on how best to communicate effectively across different audiences, and when either giving or receiving feedback.
  • You can explain problems clearly and include others in the team to discuss solutions. You’re able to persuade others and you aren’t afraid to challenge something when you need to.
  • You have experience in working across different teams, from operational, product development to external partners, and you're comfortable taking responsibility in challenging situations.
  • Your intellectual curiosity has no limit and this is your guiding light. You have the self-awareness to understand when you don’t know something and the humility to learn.
