We’re looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our growing Know Your Customer Team in Tallinn.
This role is a unique opportunity to impact the experience of every single one of Wise’s 13 million, and rising, customers. You will be working on enhancing our Know Your Customer procedures to effectively mitigate our risks while delivering a seamless customer experience. About the Role:
Our Know Your Customer (KYC) team is responsible for managing the controls and procedures designed to meet regulatory requirements and mitigate risks associated with KYC on a global scale, while delivering a seamless customer experience and applying the correct friction to relevant customers.
You will be working closely with the product and engineering teams across multiple Wise domains in driving insight and impact through more precise risk detection and control design. This can go all the way from figuring out how to gather and aggregate information from multiple different sources, to machine learning model design and productionalisation to target specific risk typologies.
Here's how you'll be contributing:
• Risk Detection: Identify policy violations and analyze customer behavior patterns using ML and traditional controls
• Model Development: Design complex models for Customer Due Diligence and financial crime detection, merging multiple risk streams
• Operational Optimization: Build predictive models to optimize global backoffice workload and enable efficient case handling
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with product and ops teams to implement novel ML techniques for operational efficiency
• Strategic Leadership: Design and own the team's ML vision and roadmap
A bit about you:
Experience implementing, testing and evaluating performance of multiple rules across systems;
Strong Python knowledge. Ability to read through code, especially Java. Demonstrable experience collaborating with engineering on services;
Experience with statistical analysis and good presentation skills to drive insight into action;
A strong product mindset with the ability to work independently in a cross-functional and cross-team environment;
Nice to have:
Familiarity with automating operational processes through technical solution, for example Large Language Models;
Knowledge of the Know Your Customer and risk modelling domains
Experience working in a regulated business domain, such as financial crime or within financial institutions.
Good communication skills and ability to get the point across to non-technical individuals;
Strong problem solving skills with the ability to help refine problem statements and figure out how to solve them.
