Senior Full-Stack Engineer
Ben
Our Mission
We're not your average benefits platform; we're the unordinary force that uplifts people's lives. Our technology is the link that connects the entire benefits ecosystem, creating better outcomes for employers, employees, brokers, and providers.
Our mission is clear: we're here to create a world where everything operates at its very best, ensuring that every employee receives the support they need to live life to the fullest, both at work and beyond.
Your Mission
As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer at Ben, your mission is solving real problems for the people using Ben – from how we structure our data, to what happens when someone clicks a button.
You will:
Build features that matter: You'll work on the stuff that makes Ben work. Benefits browsing, payments, cashback, integrations with providers, company admin tools. Scope it, build it, ship it. You're involved from "here's the problem" through to "it's live and people are using it."
Have a real say in what we build: PMs don't have a monopoly on good ideas. You'll help shape what goes on the roadmap, balance what customers are asking for against what the product needs long-term, and push back when something feels off.
Make technical decisions: How should this feature work under the hood? What's the right way to model this data? How do we make sure this doesn't break when we're 10x bigger? You'll tackle these questions and set the bar for how we build.
Think about the whole picture: At Ben, we think in systems. Our engineering teams have to think about building systems that are scalable, performant and fault tolerant. From building out and improving our payroll system, to building complex workflows to support HR admins ( approvals/rejection + notification campaigns), you will be building and maintaining our underlying infrastructure that supports benefit admin for hundreds of thousands of people. Everything connects. When you build a feature, you'll think about how it affects the whole system. What breaks upstream? What changes downstream? How do different providers handle this?
Things you will be working on…
Build and ship product features and abstraction layers across the stack (frontend, backend, APIs, integrations)
Work closely with product managers to understand context and shape solutions
Collaborate with designers to deliver polished, intuitive user experiences
Contribute to technical discovery, architecture and implementation planning
Raise product and UX questions when something doesn’t make sense
Design for scale, reliability and enterprise needs (security, customisation, compliance)
Own work from idea to production and care about the impact once it’s live
Improve developer experience, tooling and standards
Ensure that security considerations are taken into account, based on current industry-accepted practices (e.g. OWASP, AWS Well-Architected Framework) in all software development and infrastructure projects
You will thrive in this role if you…
Have strong experience building modern web applications (frontend + backend)
Are comfortable working in Python and TypeScript (prior experience is preferred but if you are a fast learner we are sure you can pick it up quickly)
Care about solving real user problems, not just closing tickets
Can collaborate with PMs and designers without waiting to be told every detail
Enjoy figuring out the how with autonomy, and the why with curiosity
Have experience in building for enterprise-scale requirements
Are pragmatic: you know when to ship fast and when to think deeply
Communicate clearly and enjoy working with friendly & ambitious people
Nice-to-haves, but not deal-breakers:
Experience building financial platforms, HR tech products or B2B SaaS
Experience building reliable workflows with Temporal
You will not love this role if you….
Need a slow pace to feel comfortable - we move fast, and we prioritise action, even when the path isn’t perfectly clear
Are uncomfortable being accountable for outcomes - this role involves owning projects end-to-end and being responsible for making them succeed and delivering them at a high quality
Prefer maintaining the status quo - we want to challenge assumptions and push for better ways of working
Prefer a highly structured environment with established processes and clearly defined boundaries - we’re still building, and sometimes that means creating the path as we go
Struggle with ambiguity or expect prescriptive direction - you’ll get support and context, but you’ll need to figure things out and take ownership
Wait for others to step up, or to be told what to do - We are a high-performance and high-reward work place and are looking for people who are proactive
Not sure if you meet 100% of the requirements?
That’s okay - we know that not everyone follows a linear career path, and we value diverse perspectives and growth mindsets. If you have a solid technical foundation and a strong interest in full stack engineering, we’d still love to hear from you. That said, this role does require hands-on experience, so please only apply if you feel confident you can contribute meaningfully from day one.
